Carl H. Embrey, 90, of Troy, Ill., born May 16, 1919, in Troy, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Anderson Hospital.
Mr. Embrey was a member and Ordained Deacon of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy. He was the city clerk of Troy for 14 years, and owner of Embrey Hardware and Appliances in Troy for 48 years. Carl served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division and Patton's Third Army. Decorations include, two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star Award for gallantry in action. He was a member of VFW Post 976, Troy, Ill., and American Legion Post 708, Troy, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, nee Porter, Embrey whom he married on July 19, 1941, and who died March 28, 1998; his parents, Carl and Mary, nee Thompson, Embrey; a sister, Nina Embrey; and son-in-law, Kent Trone.
Surviving are his son Michael (Madeleine) Embrey of Glenwood Ind.; daughter, Kay Trone of Troy, Ill.; four grandchildren, Todd Embrey of Collinsville, Ill., Beth (Jeff) Shackelford of Chesterfield, Mo., Christine (Scott) Stinnett of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Mark (Toni) Trone of Boston, Mass.; and eight great-grandchildren, Noah and Tanner Stinnett, Graceann, Abigail, Sam and Owen Shackelford, and Jordan and Lily Trone.
Memorials may be made to Augusta Cemetery, St. Jacob, Ill.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church, Troy, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Augusta Cemetery, St. Jacob, Ill.
