Billy Joe Barr, 81, of Troy, Ill., born April 5, 1933, in Royal Center, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Billy was a faithful member of Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, Ill. He retired CMSGT after serving his country for 30 years in the United States Air Force in both Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also had a career as a real estate broker with Strano Real Estate Companies in both Fairview Heights and Edwardsville communities for more than 25 years. He enjoyed photography but most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn "Sue", nee Harrison, Barr, whom he married on May 18, 1953, and who died Jan. 26, 2007; and his parents, Ralph Goodwin and Evelyn Marguerite, nee Behny, Barr.


Surviving are his children, Gregg (Sherry Hart) of Troy, Ill., and Jodi Barr of Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Evelyn (Garth) Rauschenberger and Kristen (Jorge) Santos; great-grandchildren, Lucy Sue and Gage Allen Rauschenberger, Alex Joe Santos and Noah Cummings; sister, Elizabeth J. (Dudley) Hook of Royal Center, Ind.; sister-in-law, Jean (Ed) Hollenberg of Winamac, Ind.; cousin, Mary Louise Hinshaw of Royal Center, Ind.; and second cousin, J.C. (Patrice) Hinshaw of Royal Center, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Troy United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery, Troy, Ill.
