Betty Rae Engel, 91, of Troy, IL, born May 7, 1926 in Sandoval, IL, passed away December 7, 2017 at Highland Health Care Center, Highland, IL.

Betty retired from Illinois Bell Telephone after 40 years of services as a telephone operator. She was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin Engel, whom she married November 3, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, and who passed away February 11, 2017; parents, Arthur and Lucille (nee Aderholt) Semlow; and brothers, Jack and Donald Johnson.

Surviving are her daughters, Karen Shaw and Pam Good both of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Thomas, Wallen (Sabrina) Good, Jarrod (Jackie) Good and Angelina Good-Leitschuh; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Thomas, Wally Good IV, Lillian Good, Marshall Good, Veronica Good and Liam Leitschuh; siblings, Art (Joan) Semlow of Charden, OH, Sue Azenhofer of St. Louis, MO and Wilma Haydu of Cleveland, OH; and a sister-in-law, Dodie Johnson of Mt. Zion, IL.

Services for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL. with Rev. Clint Benesh officiating.  Interment will be in Friedens Cemetery, Troy, IL.
