Barbara Powell, 66, of Troy, IL, born on April 6, 1951 in Fridley, MN, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She and her husband Michael reside in Troy, IL with their dog Max.  Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, IL, where she took an active role.  Barb was giving and caring and always going out of her way to make those around her happy.  She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed going to the theater, reading, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret (Byersdorfer) Whiting.

Survived by her husband, Michael Powell of Troy, IL, whom she married on Aug. 14, 1976 in Decatur, IL; children, Jason (Kelli) Powell of Troy, IL, Matthew (Nicole) Powell of Omaha, NE, and Christy (Eric) Youngblood of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Jason Jr., Braden, Hudson, Barrett, Skyler and Penelope Powell; brother, Scott (Donna) Whiting of Iowa; sisters, Darlene (Ronnie) Starren of Minnesota, Debra (Mike) Nelson of Iowa, Tamara (Tony) Ledesma of Illinois, and Brenda (Craig) Andersen of Iowa. Barbara was a dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected at the services and donated by the family to causes that were dear to Barb.  For those unable to attend, memorial donations can be sent to Richeson Funeral Home, 205 Edwardsville Rd, Troy, IL 62294.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, IL and again from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Troy, IL.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday June 2, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 112 N. Border St, Troy, IL,  with Rev. John Shank and Rev. Mitchel Schuessler officiating.  Interment in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Troy, IL.
