IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Audrey M.
Himmeger
January 26, 1939 – March 28, 2026
On Saturday, March 28 th , Audrey Millicent Himmeger of Troy, IL, our beloved wife and momma unexpectedly passed in her home, at the age of 87.
Audrey was born January 26, 1937, in Los Angeles CA. She was proceeded in death by her parents, John and Grace M. “Peggy” (nee White) Beynon and her sister, Lydia DeYoung. Surviving is her husband, George Himmeger of Troy, IL; her daughters, Amanda Petersen of Reno, NV and Amy (David) Surprenant of Yorkville, IL; grandchildren, Brent, Brooke and Brielle Surprenant; many beloved nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends.
Audrey was loved by many, always sharing kind words and a positive outlook on life. She was our very own Oprah, forever available to lend an ear when needed. She was quick to offer a hug and a smile. Brimming with affirmations of love and support or even a cheeky comment when the moment was right but always honoring the privacy of others. Her kind spirit shone through in her interactions with everyone that knew her.
Throughout her life she pursued various crafting hobbies, needle point, cross stitch, and painting flowers on t-shirts and tote bags. A prolific knitter and crochet master, Audrey spent many hours creating adorable baby clothes and blankets for family and friends alike. She took great pride in gifting handmade Afghans to loved ones for weddings and other special occasions. And let us not forget her talent for baking! Each Christmas season Audrey would spend days making sweet treats to gift to her friends and colleagues. She made a mean chocolate chip cookie and a scrumptious pumpkin pie that put the store-bought versions to shame.
Audrey had a love for the beauty of nature. One of her great joys in life was gardening. In her younger years she would plant vegetables and flower gardens every spring. When her mobility waned, she found joy in selecting hanging baskets and beautiful flowers to fill the planter boxes on the porch. Each spring she and George enjoyed watching the progress of the bird families that returned year after year to nest on their porch.
Our beloved Audrey was incessantly positive; and her glass half-full disposition was present no matter the situation. Her sweet voice, spontaneous singing, radiant smile, and kind heart will be missed by her family and friends. To help keep her spirit alive on earth the family suggests donations be made to The Arbor Day Foundation, either directly at arborday.org or via their reforestation project at alivingtribute.org
Visitation for Audrey will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL.
