Arthur "Art" Gremaud, 87, a life time resident of Troy, born January 29, 1930, and raised in Crosstown, Mo., was taken to heaven on Monday, September 18, 2017 by his heavenly father surrounded by his loving family.
Art was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a medical technician in Osak, Japan in the 832nd division of the 8th Army. He worked at Granite City Steel for 44 years and retired in 1992 as a Thermot Welder. He had many hobbies with bowling being his favorite. Through the years he played on many leagues. He played Euchre at the firehouse with his buddies and bingo with his family. He loved to hunt and fish with his sons and son-in-law. Spent his earlier years building every home he lived in and helped others build theirs. He took Eleven trips out west to see Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Utah and Canada with family; memories he held dear all his life. Art was an avid Cardinal fan, never missing a game.
Art was a long time faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he joined the Knights of Columbus Council 9266 in 1964 and progressed to the Knights of Columbus 4th degree and was a member of Holy Trinity Assembly 3442. He worked many chicken dinners out at St. John the Baptist, Black Jack.
His family was his pride and joy. Art was the youngest of 8 children, all of whom have passed; brothers, Oliver, Glennon, Floyd, Leroy, Homer and sisters, Gladys and Zela. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Genevieve "Gen" A. Pingel, who he married on Oct. 25, 1952 in Perryville, Mo., who passed December 7, 2003; parents, Frank and Louise Gremaud; daughter, Kathy, who passed away in 2013; great-grandchild, Josephine Droy, and 4 other great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Patricia (Bob) Johnson of Springfield, Ill., Donna (Joe) Thomas of Troy, Ill., Douglas Gremaud of Collinsville, Ill., Daniel Gremaud of Troy, Ill. and Janice Gremaud of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren, Teresa (Robert) Nolting, Eric (Ana) Johnson, Laura (Barry) Coomer, Maria (Cory) Droy, Adam (fiance Katy) Thomas and Jason (Emily) Thomas; great-grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Nolting, David and Claire Johnson, Genevieve, Elizabeth, James Droy and baby boy on the way.

Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill. Interment with full military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
