Anna E. Meyer Cope, 94, of Troy, Ill., born May 11, 1914, in Alhambra, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edwardsville, Ill.
Mrs. Cope worked for Bassler Electric in Highland, Ill., for a few years then for a shoe factory in Highland and lastly as a seamstress in Marine, Ill. She enjoyed quilting and bingo and loved to take walks. She enjoyed the beauty of each day. Anna lived in Troy since 1969 and was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold C. Meyer, whom she married Feb. 21, 1932, and who died Jan. 17, 1976; her second husband, Dwight "Don" Cope, whom she married April 23, 1980, and who died Feb. 28, 1983; a son, Clifford Meyer; a daughter, Annette Furtwengler; her parents, John and Barbara, nee Doerzapf, Daiber; brothers, Adolph, Andrew and Elmer Daiber; and sisters, Sr. Carmelta Oliva Klausing, Emma Dauderman, Frances Knabel, Amanda Mayer, Alice Henke and Linda Rehkemper.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley (Duane) Stoecklin of Papillion, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Meyer of Granite City, Ill. Son-in-law, Robert Furtwengler of Highland, Ill; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jerome Catholic Church or to Tri-Township Library.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Laughlin~Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Ill.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Ill., with Monsignor Virgil Mank officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
