Obituary

Alvin Joseph Loyet, 93 of Troy, IL., husband of Mildred Loyet, passed away April 27, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. He was born in Black Jack, IL. on January 24, 1918.

Mr. Loyet was a farmer and a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, IL.

Alvin was a dairy, crop and hog farmer all of his life. He also had many enjoyments in his life, his children, grandchildren, hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards and dancing. In addition he was a charter member of the Troy, Maryville Knights of Columbus Assembly 1758 and Maryville Knights of Columbus 6625. Alvin became a First Degree Knights of Columbus member in 1946 and over the years remained an active member earning all degress and was a Past Faithful Navigator in Collinsville from 1966 to 1970. Alvin served as the Madison County Weed Commissioner for over 30 years and also served on the Troy Volunteer Fire Dept. retiring when he turned 65 with over 20 years of service.

Mr. Loyet enjoyed being with people and working on their behalf. As a result, he was a Commissioner at the Troy Tri Township Park for 12 years. His main project at the park was caring for the trees and the lake. He did not speak up against many community requests, but when he did, people listened. He was also a Deputy Tax Assessor for Jarvis Township for 13 years.

Alvin was an active member of the Madison County Farm Bureau, Bee Keepers Association, and the Nut Growers Organization.

Mr. Loyet was preceded in death by his parents, Peter "Leonard" and Estella (nee Ammel) Loyet; grandchild, Alissa Schreiber; brothers, Harold and Edward Loyet, and sister, Delores Gruber.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred (nee Bouse) Loyet; sons, Gerald Loyet of Collinsville, IL. and Curtis Loyet of Collinsville, IL.; daughters, Charlotte (Edward) Hamill of Columbus, GA., Anita M. Howard of Troy, IL., Marlene Loyet of St. Ann, MO., Teresa Oakley of Glen Carbon, IL., and Joan (Fred) Schreiber of Troy, IL.; grandchildren, Bill and Phillip Hamill, John and Aaron Howard, Chris, Alyssa, Katie,and Adam Loyet, Derek, Lara and Alaina Oakley, Lauren, Tony, Eric and Alissa Schreiber; great grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan and Spencer Gieseking, Hunter, Jake and Samantha Loyet, Manda and Jessica Hamill; brother, Kenneth (Julia) Loyet of Troy, IL., and sister Agnes Schreiber of Highland, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL. 60660 or in the form of masses.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laughlin - Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL. and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Fr. Pat Jakel officiating.

Mr. Loyet will be buried in Buck Road Cemetery, Maryville, IL.
