Alvin George Frey, 96, of Troy, Ill., born June 14, 1913, in Marine, Ill., died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Mr. Frey retired in 1967 as an overhead crane operator at Granite City Steel. After retirement he worked as a stationary engineer at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, Ill. He was a member of Nelson Lodge 25, Odd Fellows, Pride of the West, Rebekahs 544 of Troy, Moose Lodge 1349 Wood River, Ill., Shut-in Club of Edwardsville, Ill., and Jarvis Township Senior Citizens. Alvin served for 30 years as director, and vice-president for six years at Troy Savings and Homestead, and Branch of Collinsville Building and Loan. He was also a member of the Sportsman Club since 1953.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, nee Morgan, Frey whom he married on Sept. 2, 1933, in Highland, Ill., and who passed away on April 30, 1992; his son, Charles Frey; parents, Edward H. and Mayme, nee Adelhardt, Frey; brothers, Raymond, Ottmar and Edward Frey; and sisters, Irene Hardy and Marie Gentry.
Surviving are his granddaughter, Lori McCurdy of Troy, Ill.; grandson, Peter Frey of Hoboken, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Frey of Collinsville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Joshua McCurdy; sister, Blanche Bayer of Edwardsville, Ill.; good friend, Lillian Bensa of Troy, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., with Rev. Gerry Proctor officiating. Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery, Troy, Ill.
