Mr. Alton F. Burroughs, age 65, of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away on November 16, 2004 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Illinois.
Mr. Burroughs was born on April 18, 1939 in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
He married Irene (nee: Wiegan) Burroughs on April 1, 1963 at the United Church of Christ in Marine, Illinois.
Mr. Burroughs was a St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper carrier for over thirty years in the Troy area. When he retired from the Post-Dispatch, he began delivering for the Edwardsville Intelligencer in the Edwardsville and Troy area. Mr. Burroughs loved animals and was always seen with one of his favorite pets. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 708 of Troy, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Irene (nee: Wiegan) of forty one years;
Two sons; Ira (Cathy) Burroughs of Edwardsville, IL., Tim (Laura) Burroughs of Highland, IL; One daughter; Mrs. Angelina (Kevin) Gerstenecker of Troy, IL; one brother, Raymond (Verlene) Burroughs of Pascagoula, MS; one sister, Mrs. Vivian Careno of Pascagoula, Ms.; Eight grandchildren; Abby, Evan, EmmaLeigh, Paige, Branden, Tyler, Patricia and Christopher, and his best "Canine Friend" Bebe.
Preceding him in death are three brothers and four sisters; Joe, Hubert and Leo Burroughs, Lola Lednier, Julia Stingfellow, Estella Bang and Viola "Sister" Bang.
Friends may call after 4:00 pm, Friday, November 19, 2004 at Laughlin Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Laughlin Funeral Home, Troy,IL.
Interment: Bartlett Cemetery in Pin Oak Township.
Officiating will be Rev. Philip Kershner of the Marine United Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
